Mental math is a great way to strengthen number sense. One game to build this skill is mental adding. Students can play "Make 20", "Make 100", or "Make 1000". They are presented with a number and have to say or write the number that will add to make the right sum. For example, to make 100, if students hear 64 they must say 36. This is a great game to play verbally.

Here is an online game that practices making 10 (very easy). http://www.learninggamesforkids.com/math_games/addition/math-lines-10.html

Same game but for 20 (medium difficulty)
